Removal Procedure
- Release the park brake.
- Remove
the 4 screws (1,3,4,6), the 2 clips (2,5), and lift up
the console.
- Loosen the park brake cable lock nut (2).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the locking washers, if equipped, from the wheel studs.
- Remove the drum (1) from the axle
hub. If the drum cannot be removed by hand, install 2 8 mm bolts (2)
into the drum. Tightening the bolts will force the drum off the hub.
Installation Procedure
- Use the J 42450-A
, or equivalent,
in order to clean the axle flange mounting surface.
- Use denatured alcohol, or an equivalent brake cleaner, in order to clean
the axle flange.
- Use the J 41013
, or equivalent,
in order to clean the drum mounting surface.
- Use denatured alcohol, or an equivalent brake cleaner, in order to clean
the drum.
- Measure the outer diameter of the brake
shoes (3).
Specification
The outer diameter of the brake shoes should be between 219.4 mm (8.638 in)
and 219.7 mm (8.650 in).
- If the outer diameter of the brake shoes is not within the specification,
turn the adjuster (2) in order to adjust the outer diameter of the shoes.
- Install the brake drum to the axle flange.
- Install the locking washers, if equipped, to the wheel studs.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Press the brake pedal 3 to 5 times.
- Adjust the park brake. Refer to
Park Brake Adjustment
in Park Brake.
- Install
the console. Install the 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and the 2 clips (2,5).
