Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
Important: The transmission must be lowered at least 8 inches to gain access to the back
up lamp switch.
- Remove transmission. Refer to
Two-Wheel-Drive Transmission Replacement
or
Four-Wheel-Drive Transmission Replacement
in Manual Transmission.
- Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the backup lamp switch.
- Remove the backup lamp switch (1)
from the manual transmission upper case (2).
- Inspect the backup lamp switch O-ring for cuts or damage. Replace the
backup lamp switch O-ring if necessary.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the backup lamp switch (1) to the manual transmission upper
case (2).
Tighten
Tighten the backup lamp switch to 20 N·m (14 lb ft).
- Connect the electrical connector (1)
to the backup lamp switch.
- Raise transmission and reinstall components. Refer to
Two-Wheel-Drive Transmission Replacement
or
Four-Wheel-Drive Transmission Replacement
in Manual Transmission.
- Lower the vehicle.
