Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers operates normally but will not return to the park position when the wiper operation is cancelled.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Move the wiper switch to the LO position.
  3. Move wiper switch to the OFF position.

Do the front wipers advance to the park position?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the front wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Test the Run circuit for ignition positive voltage at the wiper motor connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Make sure the wiper switch is in the OFF position.
  3. Test for a high resistance or an open condition in the Run circuit between cavity 1 and cavity 3 of the wiper motor connector.

Did you measure a high resistance or an open condition?

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Make sure the wiper switch is in the OFF position.
  3. Test for a high resistance or an open condition between cavity 23 and cavity 5 of the wiper/washer switch connector.

Did you measure a high resistance or an open condition?

Go to Step 6

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the Run/Park circuit between the wiper motor connector and wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the front wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 11

Replace the front wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
