Schematic Reference: Cruise Control Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses that the cruise control system operates normally, but the CRUISE indicator does not illuminate.

Did you review the Cruise Control Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Cruise Control

  1. Start the vehicle.
  2. Operate the cruise control switch to the ON position.
  3. Drive vehicle above 40 km/h (25 mph).
  4. Operate the cruise control mode switch to the SET position so that the cruise control system is activated.

Does the CRUISE indicator illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control servo connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a5 A fused jumper wire between cavity 4 of the cruise control module connector and ground.

Does the CRUISE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Test for a high resistance or an open condition between cavity 4 of the cruise control servo and C1 - cavity 16 of the instrument cluster. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 9

  1. Replace the CRUISE lamp in the instrument cluster.
  2. Operate the cruise control switch to the ON position.
  3. Drive vehicle above 40 km/h (25 mph).
  4. Operate the cruise control mode switch to the SET position so that the cruise control system is activated.

Does the CRUISE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Repair or replace the instrument cluster printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the cruise control servo. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the cruise control servo. Refer to Cruise Control Servo Replacement .
