J 41409 Body Molding Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. The rear quarter molding is attached to the rear quarter with adhesive tape. Apply masking tape to the body side border of the molding to protect the body from scratches. The tape will also aid in aligning the rear quarter molding to the front side door molding during installation.
  2. Important: Do not overheat the component.

  3. If the vehicle body is below 21°C (70°F) due to the shop temperature or the outside temperature, use a auxiliary heat source in order to warm the rear quarter and molding before proceeding to the next step.
  4. Use J 41409 or the equivalent in order to cut through the adhesive material.
  5. Remove the molding from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the rear quarter where the molding is to be mounted.
  2. Use a suitable solvent, such as a mixture of 50 percent isopropyl alcohol and 50 percent water, or equivalent.
  3. Dry the area thoroughly.
  4. Important: Apply the adhesive tape in an environment free of dust or dirt so that it does not come in contact with the sticky backing and prevent proper adhesion.

  5. Install adhesive tape to the molding.
  6. If the vehicle body is below 21°C (70°F) due to the shop temperature or the outside temperature, use a auxiliary heat source in order to warm the rear quarter before proceeding to the next step.
  7. Remove the adhesive tape release sheet.
  8. Apply the molding to the rear quarter using the masking tape as a guide.
  9. Apply an equal amount of pressure along the molding to uniformly bond the molding to the rear quarter.
