    • J 35271 Flywheel Holder
    • J 34853 Crankshaft Seal Protector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  2. Remove the engine timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 586483  Size: SH
  4. Remove the oil level indicator from the guide tube.
  5. Remove the 2 bolts (2) and the guide tube (1) with the O-ring from the oil pump.

  6. Object Number: 166636  Size: SH
  7. Use a J 35271 on the flywheel (1) in order to lock the crankshaft.

  8. Object Number: 166638  Size: SH
  9. Remove the crankshaft timing belt gear bolt (1).
  10. Remove the crankshaft timing belt gear (2).

  11. Object Number: 166642  Size: SH
  12. Remove the following from the cylinder block:
  13. • The 7 oil pump assembly bolts
    • The oil pump assembly (1)
    • The gasket
    • The rubber oil pump-to-coolant pump seals
    • The 2 guide pins
  14. Clean the following assemblies:
  15. • The cylinder block
    • The oil pump
    • The oil pan mating surfaces

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply a thin coat of oil to the J 34853 .

  2. Object Number: 166640  Size: SH
  3. Use the J 34853 in order to install the oil seal over the crankshaft.

  4. Object Number: 166649  Size: SH
  5. Slide the oil pump assembly into position on the cylinder block.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Secure the oil pump assembly with the 7 bolts (1, 2).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  9. Inspect the oil seal lip to ensure the oil seal lip is not upturned.
  10. Remove the J 34853 .

  11. Object Number: 166638  Size: SH
  12. Install the crankshaft timing belt gear (2). Secure the timing belt gear with 1 bolt (1).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft timing belt gear to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  14. Remove the J 35271 from the flywheel (1).

  15. Object Number: 586483  Size: SH
  16. Install the guide tube (1) with a new O-ring and the oil level indicator to the cylinder block. Secure the guide tube with a new O-ring and the oil level indicator with 2  bolts.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the guide tube bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  18. Install the engine timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  19. Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  20. Refill the engine oil according to the specifications. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities in General Information.
  21. Check the oil pressure upon completion of the installation.
