Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

  3. Object Number: 466472 Size: SH
  4. Remove the upper radiator hose (1) from the thermostat housing (2).

  5. Object Number: 465593 Size: SH
  6. Remove the four fan nuts (1).
  7. Remove the four radiator shroud fasteners.
  8. Important: Do not damage the radiator when removing the fan.

  9. Lean the shroud toward the engine.
  10. Detach the fan from the pulley hub and remove the shroud and fan together.
  11. Remove the air conditioner compressor drive belt (if equipped).

  12. Object Number: 586494 Size: SH
  13. Loosen the generator adjustment bolt (1).
  14. Remove the generator drive belt.
  15. Remove the coolant pump pulley.

  16. Object Number: 177841 Size: SH
  17. Remove the five crankshaft timing pulley bolts (3) and the crankshaft timing pulley (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 177841 Size: SH
  1. Install the crankshaft timing pulley (1). Fit the keyway on the pulley to the key on the crankshaft timing sprocket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Secure the five crankshaft timing pulley bolts (3) and/or the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt (2) (if removed).
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the crankshaft timing pulley bolts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
        • Tighten the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

    Object Number: 586494 Size: SH
  5. Install the coolant pump pulley on to the coolant pump.
  6. Install the generator drive belt (1).
  7. Important: Do not damage the radiator when installing the fan and fan shroud.

    Object Number: 465593 Size: SH
  8. Install the fan and the fan shroud together.
  9. Install the four radiator shroud fasteners.
  10. Install the four fan nuts (1).
  11. Tighten
Tighten the fan nuts to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).

  12. Adjust the generator drive belt tension. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  13. Object Number: 466472 Size: SH
  14. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing (1).
  15. Refill the cooling system as necessary. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
