Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 467928  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Use a floor jack in order to support the rear axle housing (1).

  3. Object Number: 467936  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the park brake cable hanger (1) from the frame (2). Disconnect the clamp from the cross member.

  5. Object Number: 467932  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lower nut and bolt (2) from the shock absorber (1).

  7. Object Number: 467937  Size: SH
  8. If the vehicle has ABS, remove the wheel speed sensor clamps (2) from the upper control arm (1) and the axle housing.
  9. Remove the E-ring from the right rear brake pipe.
  10. Disconnect the breather hose from the axle housing.

  12. Lower the rear axle housing gradually as far down as necessary in order to remove the coil spring (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 467941  Size: SH

    Important: When seating the coil spring, mate the spring end with the stepped part (4) of the rear axle spring seat (3).

  1. Install the coil spring (1) on the spring seat (3) of the axle housing (2). Raise the axle housing.

  2. Object Number: 467932  Size: SH

    Important: DO NOT tighten the fasteners before lowering the vehicle. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tires and wheels before tightening the fasteners.

  3. Install the shock absorber lower bolt (2) and the nut.

  4. Object Number: 467937  Size: SH
  5. If the vehicle has ABS, install the wheel speed sensor clamps (2).
  6. Install the E-ring to the right rear brake pipe.
  7. Connect the breather hose to the axle housing.

  8. Object Number: 467936  Size: SH
  9. Connect the park brake cable hanger (1) to the chassis frame (2) and clamp the hanger to the cross member.
  10. Remove the floor jack from the axle housing.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 467932  Size: SH
  13. With the weight of the vehicle on the tires and wheels, tighten the nut and the bolt (2).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and the bolt to 100 N·m (73.8 lb ft).
