    • J 28662 Brake Pedal Effort Gage
    • J 21177-A Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage
  1. Depress the brake pedal 3 times with 30 kg (66 lbs) of force using the J 28662 .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Rotate each rear tire and wheel assembly in order to inspect the brake shoe drag on the brake drum.
  4. If the brake shoe drag on the brake drum is not correct, remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  6. Insert the J 21177-A to the braking surface of the drum.
  7. Position the J 21177-A over the linings on the brake shoes.

  9. Turn the adjuster (2) until the primary and the secondary shoes contact the J 21177-A .
  10. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  11. Depress the brake pedal 3 times with 30 kg (66 lbs) of force using the J 28662 .
  12. Rotate the brake drum in order to inspect the brake shoe drag on the brake drum. Verify the brake shoe drag on the brake drum is correct.
  13. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
