    • J 36850 Transjel® Lubricant

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 627869  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (2) from the speedometer drive gear case.
  4. Remove the following items from the extension case:
  5. • The 1 bolt (1) 
    • The ground wire
    • The speedometer driven gear case

  6. Remove the following items from the speedometer driven gear case:
  7. • 1 roll pin (3) 
    • The speedometer driven gear (2) 

    Object Number: 189853  Size: SH
  8. Remove the speedometer driven gear lip seal (1) from the speedometer driven gear case (2).
  9. Inspect the speedometer driven gear for excessive wear or damage. Replace the speedometer driven gear if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply the J 36850 to the new speedometer driven gear lip seal.

  2. Object Number: 189855  Size: SH
  3. Install the new speedometer driven gear lip seal into the speedometer driven gear case (2) using the J 34833 .
  4. Install the speedometer driven gear (1) into the speedometer gear case (2). Secure the speedometer driven gear with one roll pin.

  5. Object Number: 627869  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the speedometer driven gear case to the extension case and the ground wire; secure with the 1 bolt (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the speedometer driven gear case retaining bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  8. Connect the vehicle speed sensor to the speedometer driven gear case.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
