Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 631431 Size: MH

Important: Before removing the clutch pedal shaft arm from the clutch pedal shaft, place a reference mark on the clutch pedal shaft and clutch pedal shaft arm to ensure the correct assembly. If the clutch pedal shaft arm is installed in a position other than the one from which it was removed, the clutch release lever travel will increase or decrease resulting in a misadjusted clutch pedal.

  1. Disconnect the manual transmission clutch start switch (24).
  2. Disconnect the release clutch pedal position switch (22).
  3. Disconnect the stoplamp switch.
  4. Remove the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis retainer.
  5. Remove the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis pin.
  6. Remove the brake pedal push rod clevis retainer.
  7. Remove the brake pedal push rod clevis pin.
  8. Remove the 3 bolts (25) at the top of the clutch pedal bracket.
  9. Remove the 4 nuts at the bottom of the clutch pedal bracket.
  10. Remove the clutch pedal return spring from the brake pedal bracket.
  11. Remove the clutch pedal bracket assembly from the vehicle.

Disassemble Procedure

    Object Number: 631431 Size: MH
  1. Remove the clutch pedal arm bolt (14) and the nut (15).
  2. Remove the clutch pedal arm (4).
  3. Remove the clutch pedal lever (9).
  4. Remove the clutch pedal shaft (1) and the bushings (13) from the clutch pedal bracket (17).
  5. Inspect the clutch pedal shaft (1) and clutch pedal shaft bushings (13) for excessive wear. Replace as necessary.
  6. Inspect the clutch pedal lever for distortion or bending. Replace as necessary.
  7. Inspect the clutch pedal return spring (5) for distortion or weakness. Replace as necessary.

Assembly Procedure

    Object Number: 631431 Size: MH
  1. Install the clutch pedal shaft bushings (2,28) into the clutch pedal bracket (1).
  2. Apply a thin coat of lithium grease to the inside of the clutch pedal shaft bushings (2,28).
  3. Install the clutch pedal  (13), the clutch pedal lever  (6) and the clutch pedal return spring (18) into the clutch pedal bracket (1).
  4. Install the clutch pedal return spring to the brake pedal bracket.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the clutch pedal shaft arm  (17) onto the clutch pedal shaft aligning index marks made during removal; secure with 1 bolt and 1 nut.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the clutch pedal shaft arm bolt and nut to 24 N·m (17 lb ft).
