Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 461496  Size: SH
  4. Remove the boot clip (2).

  5. Object Number: 461928  Size: SH
  6. Remove the boot band (2).
  7. Remove the boot (1) from the inner tie rod.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 461928  Size: SH
  1. Install the boot (1) to the groove in the steering gear (3). Secure the boot to the steering gear with the boot band (2)

  2. Object Number: 461496  Size: SH
  3. Apply chassis grease, GM P/N 12377985, or equivalent, to the inner tie rod (1).
  4. Ensure the boot is not twisted, dented, or improperly folded.
  5. Secure the boot (3) to the inner tie rod with the boot clip (2).
  6. Install the outer tie rod. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  7. Lower the vehicle.
