Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the throttle body and intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  2. Remove the ignition coil cover.
  3. Disconnect the ignition coil couplers.

  4. Object Number: 644078  Size: SH
  5. Remove the ignition coils.

  6. Object Number: 648145  Size: SH
  7. Remove the 4 nuts (2) on the camshaft cover (1).
  8. Remove the camshaft cover.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the sealing surfaces on the camshaft cover and the cylinder head.

  2. Object Number: 648100  Size: SH
  3. Apply GM P/N 12346240 or equivalent to the cylinder head at the points indicated (1).
  4. Install the new camshaft cover gasket to the camshaft cover.
  5. Install the new cylinder head side seal to the cylinder head.

  6. Object Number: 648145  Size: SH
  7. Install the camshaft cover (1) to the cylinder head.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Using new seal washers (3), tighten the 4 nuts (2) on the camshaft cover (1).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10.5 N·m (7.5 lb ft).

  11. Install the ignition coils.
  12. Connect the ignition couplers.
  13. Install the ignition coil cover.
  14. Install the throttle body and intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
