Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the rear wipers are always on when the rear wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.

Verify that the rear wipers are always on when the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.

Do the rear wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the front wiper switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the front wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  3. Test the following circuits for a short to voltage condition at the wiper motor connector:
    4. • Wiper motor control circuit
    • Run/Park

Did either of the circuits measure a short to voltage?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch. Refer Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Retest the circuit that measured short to voltage at the wiper motor connector.

Does the circuit still have a short to voltage condition?

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Repair the short to voltage condition. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Replace the rear wiper/washer switch. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the rear wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
