GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The front bumper system contains an energy absorber made of polypropylene material. The energy absorber is positioned between the bumper impact bar and the bumper fascia. GM vehicle bumpers are designed to withstand a collision into a fixed barrier at 8 km/h (5 mph) and sustain minimal damage. After absorbing the energy of the collision, the bumper returns to the original position.
