The remote control door lock receiver (6) is located under the instrument panel to the right of the steering column. The door lock control module is integrated into the receiver. The receiver directly controls the functions of the keyless entry system. The receiver is able to receive signals from up to four transmitters, and must be programmed to accept signals from any transmitters that are to be added or replaced.
The transmitter unit (3) is a battery powered, water resistant, radio frequency signal generator. Two transmitters are provided with each vehicle. The receiver is capable of recognizing up to four transmitters. Replacement transmitters for the vehicle may be obtained, however the receiver must be reprogrammed to accept the new transmitter. Refer to Transmitter Programming .
The Remote Keyless Entry system will execute the following functions in response to pressing the buttons (1,2) on the transmitter (3). The transmitter should be held 10 meter (30 feet) or less from the vehicle for consistent operation.
• | Pressing the unlock button (2) once will unlock the left front side door. |
• | Pressing the unlock button (2) a second time within 5.0 seconds will unlock all doors. |
• | Pressing the lock button (1) will lock all doors. |
Battery voltage is applied at all times through the D/L fuse to the remote control door lock receiver, the lock switch/cylinders and the door lock/unlock relays. The module is permanently ground to G201. The remote control door lock receiver performs the functions of interpreting the signals from the transmitter and controlling the door lock and unlock relays.
The locks can be operated in two different ways.
The first method is without the transmitter using the door lock switch located on the left front door trim panel. When the door lock switch is depressed to the lock position, battery voltage is applied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the door lock switch to the coil of the door lock relay. The coil is permanently ground to G201. With power and ground supplied to the coil, the coil becomes energized closing the contacts in the relay. Battery voltage is supplied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the relay to the door locks. The door locks are ground through the normally closed contacts in the door unlock relay to G201. With power and ground supplied the locks actuate and lock the doors. The doors can also lock by using any one of the key locks. By turning the lock cylinder to the lock position with the key, the contacts in the lock cylinder switch close. Battery voltage is supplied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the lock cylinder switch to the coil of the lock relay. The locks will operate in the same manner describd above. To unlock the doors, depress the door lock switch to the unlock position. Battery voltage is applied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the door lock switch to the coil of the door unlock relay. The coil is permanently ground to G201. With power and ground supplied to the coil, the coil becomes energized closing the contacts in the relay. Battery voltage is supplied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the relay to the passenger door locks. The drivers door unlock is controlled by the remote control door lock receiver. When the door lock switch is depressed to the unlock position, it sends a signal to the receiver and the receiver supplies battery voltage to the left front door lock. The door locks are ground through the normally closed contacts in the door lock relay to G201. With power and ground supplied the locks actuate and unlock the doors.
The other method to operate the locks is with the transmitter. By depressing the UNLOCK button once, the transmitter sends a signal to the remote control door lock receiver. The receiver supplies battery voltage to the left front door lock. The door lock is ground through the normally closed contacts in the door lock relay to G201. With power and ground supplied the lock actuates and unlocks the door. By depressing the UNLOCK button a second time within 5 seconds, a signal is sent to the remote control door lock receiver. The receiver supplies battery voltage to the door unlock relay. The coil is permanently ground to G201. With power and ground supplied to the coil, the coil becomes energized closing the contacts in the relay. Battery voltage is supplied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the relay to the passenger door locks. The door locks are ground through the normally closed contacts in the door lock relay to G201. With power and ground supplied the locks actuate and unlock the passenger doors. To lock the doors, depress the LOCK button. The transmitter sends a signal to the remote control door lock receiver. The receiver supplies battery voltage to the door lock relay. The coil is permanently ground to G201. With power and ground supplied to the coil, the coil becomes energized closing the contacts in the relay. Battery voltage is supplied through the D/L fuse and the closed contacts in the relay to the door locks. The door locks are ground through the normally closed contacts in the door unlock relay to G201. With power and ground supplied the locks actuate and lock the doors.
