Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 465588 Size: SH
  3. Use a wrench and rotate the belt tensioner clockwise.
  4. With pressure applied to the wrench, and tension relieved from the drive belt, remove the accessory drive belt.
  5. Inspect the belt for cuts, cracks, wear, deformation or other abnormalities. Replace as necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Properly route and install the accessory drive belt onto the drive pulleys.

  2. Object Number: 465588 Size: SH
  3. Use a wrench and rotate the belt tensioner clockwise.
  4. With pressure applied to the wrench, install the accessory drive belt.
  5. With the accessory drive belt installed properly, release the belt tensioner.

  6. Object Number: 468537 Size: SH
  7. Inspect for the following conditions:
  8. • That the belt is properly installed on all pulleys.
    • When a new belt is correctly installed, the hash mark (3) will be within the indicated range (2) on the tensioner.
    • If the tension indicator mark (4) is to the left of the hash mark (3), the belt must be replaced.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
