Circuit Description

When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position battery voltage is applied to the AIR BAG indicator and to the ignition 1 voltage input at the inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). The SDM responds by flashing the AIR BAG indicator seven times.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition 1 voltage is within the normal operating voltage range.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The voltage at the AIR BAG indicator output does not match the commanded state of the lamp driver for 500 milliseconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The SDM attempts to command the AIR BAG indicator ON.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.
    • A history DTC will clear once 250 malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

Refer to Air Bag Indicator Always On and Air Bag Indicator Does Not Come ON in order to diagnose warning indicator circuit malfunctions.

This diagnostic trouble code is set when malfunctions occur in the AIR BAG warning lamp circuitry. Refer to Air Bag Indicator Always On and Air Bag Indicator Does Not Come ON for AIR BAG warning lamp diagnosis.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 3

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for setting the DTC as specified in the supporting text.

Does the DTC reset?

Go to Step 2
