Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

Verify that the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator is malfunctioning.

Does the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator always ON?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Close the liftglass and liftgate.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the liftgate ajar switch and liftglass ajar switch parameters in the Liftgate Module data list.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 5

Disconnect the appropriate liftgate ajar or liftglass ajar switch.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 8

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Open the liftglass and liftgate.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the liftgate ajar switch and liftglass ajar switch parameters in the Liftgate Module data list.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate liftgate ajar or liftglass ajar switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a fused jumper between the appropriate ajar switch signal circuit and the appropriate ajar switch low reference circuit of the ajar switch harness connector.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 12

Test the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit or the liftglass ajar switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit or the liftglass ajar switch signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the liftgate ajar switch low reference circuit or the liftglass ajar switch low reference circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
