Correction

DEFINITION: A faulty internal transfer case component that causes a growl or grinding noise in the transfer case, usually while the vehicle is turning.

Review the Symptoms - Transfer Case and perform the necessary inspections.

Worn or faulty front/rear drive differential carrier assembly

  1. Inspect the front/rear drive differential carrier assembly for the following conditions:
  2. • Loose internal components
    • Resistance or rough operation while rotating internal splines
    • Engagement splines for wear
    • Refer to Front/Rear Drive Differential Carrier Cleaning and Inspection in Transfer Case - NVG 120-NR9 Unit Repair.
  3. Replace the front/rear drive differential carrier assembly, if faulty. Refer to Transfer Case Disassemble and Transfer Case Assemble in Transfer Case - NVG 120-NR9 Unit Repair.
