Subject:Information to Clarify Installation of Trailer Wiring Harness (RPO B4U)

Models:2006-2008 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS
with Sport Performance Package (RPO B4U)

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2008 model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-08-45-006A (Section 08 -- Body & Accessories).

The trailer harness on the TrailBlazer SS is different from the other midsize utility models of the same platform because of the extended rear fascia. Some customers may comment on the usage of this specific trailer harness because the information specific to TrailBlazer SS is not present in the Owner Manual.

The 4-way TrailBlazer SS specific harness plugs into the platform harness attached to the trailer hitch. However, the harness will not fit the receptacle on the trailer hitch and will have to be routed based on the customer's usage. For vehicles produced after approximately January 2006, an additional 7-way adapter is also provided. This adapter also cannot be attached to the trailer hitch because of a lack of clearance with the fascia, and will have to be routed based on the customer's usage.

The 7-way vehicle side harness will not plug into a standard 7-way harness and must use the adapter provided to work with a standard 7-way harness, P/N 12191503, if needed, but would be a customer pay part for vehicles built prior to January 2006).

Refer to the following suggested procedure and illustrations for trailer towing jumper harness installation. The illustrations below do not show the fascia installed.

  3. Connect the vehicle harness (1) to the trailer towing jumper harness (2).

  4. Object Number: 1827784 Size: MF
  5. Loop the trailer towing jumper harness over the hitch bracket, and then around the spare wheel and through the rear fascia opening.

A 7-way trailer connector is also included for installing per step 2.
