Removal Procedure
The exhaust system is serviced as a complete assembly.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer
to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Notice: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic
converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement
at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees
up or down.
- Support the three-way catalytic converter.
- Disconnect the trim height sensor link. Refer to
Automatic Level Control Sensor Link Replacement
in Automatic
Level Control.
- Support the tie rod.
- Disconnect the tie rod. Refer to
Tie Rod Replacement
in Rear Suspension.
- Lower the support and the tie rod.
- Remove the catalytic converter nuts.
- Disconnect the hanger insulators from the rods welded to the exhaust
system.
- Remove the exhaust system.
Remove the exhaust system supports and carefully pull the exhaust system
towards the front of the vehicle and over the rear suspension.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new catalytic converter gasket.
- Position the exhaust system under the vehicle.
- Carefully push the exhaust system towards the rear of the vehicle
and over the rear suspension.
- Support the exhaust system.
- Connect the hanger insulators to the rods welded to the exhaust
system.
- Install the tie rod. Refer to
Tie Rod Replacement
in Rear Suspension.
- Connect the trim height sensor link. Refer to
Automatic Level Control Sensor Link Replacement
in Automatic
Level Control.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the catalytic
converter nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the catalytic converter nuts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
