Condition

Some of the subject vehicles may exhibit a condition where the transmission range selector display on the dash does not light up at certain positions. This usually occurs when shifting from D1, D2 or D3 to D.

Cause

The cause of this condition may be due to the transmission shift cable being out of adjustment.

Correction

Adjust the transmission shift cable using the procedure listed below:

  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Block the rear wheels.

  3. Object Number: 763014 Size: SH
  4. Loosen the 2 intake air duct clamps (1).
  5. Remove the intake air duct from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the throttle body.
  6. Place the vehicle in N (neutral).

  7. Object Number: 1558711 Size: SH
  8. Fully lift the adjuster lock on the adjuster at the transmission shift cable bracket. Insert a small screwdriver as shown and firmly press into slot. Failure to insert the screwdriver properly may result in damage to the adjuster lock.
  9. From inside the vehicle, have a assistant hold the shifter lever on the D side (downward end of its movement) in the neutral gate.
  10. Wiggle the shift cable just before the bracket (while the assistant holds the shift lever as described above), let the cable stabilize and then press the adjuster lock down until flush with the adjuster body.
  11. Install the intake air duct and tighten clamps.
  12. Unblock the rear wheels.
  13. Shift to 'Park".
  14. Release the parking brake while applying the service brake.
  15. Start the engine.
  16. Ensure all the indicated gear positions match the vehicle response and verify proper operation of the range selector display.
