Door Glass Inoperative (Replace Door Glass Insulator/Sash, If Necessary)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the door glass is inoperative.

Cause

The door glass may have frozen to the window run channel, and when cycled down, caused damage to the door glass insulator or sash channel.

Correction 1

Replace the window insulator following the procedure below:

  1. Lower the door glass.
  2. Remove the door trim. Refer to document ID #1501354, Trim Panel Replacement-Side Front door.
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4. Using a small flat-bladed tool, press in on the retainer tabs to release the door glass from the sash channel.
  5. Slide the channel forward.
  6. Push the door glass up and tape it to the door frame.
  7. Use a small flat-bladed tool to remove the window insulator from the glass.
  8. Install the new insulator to the glass.
  9. Remove the tape from the glass and lower the glass.
  10. Slide the sash channel back in place and lock it to the insulators on the glass .
  11. Install the water deflector.
  12. Install the door trim. Refer to document ID #1501354, Trim Panel Replacement-Side Front Door.

Correction 2

Replace the sash channel, if necessary, by following the procedure below:

  1. Remove the door glass from the sash channel. Follow the procedure in Correction 1 for removal of the door glass from the sash channel.
  2. Bend the channel end back.
  3. Remove the sash channel from the window regulator by moving it forward. The wheel on the regulator will disengage from channel in the rear. Lift the channel on an angle and move the channel rear ward. This will disengage the front wheel from the channel. Then remove.
  4. Install the sash channel. Lift it on an angle and engage the front wheel of the window regulator. Lower the channel and move it rearward to engage the rear wheel on the regulator to the channel.
  5. Follow the procedure in Correction 1 for installation of the door glass to the sash channel.
