Condition

Some customers may comment on an outside air temperature display that is incorrect or an instantaneous fuel economy reading that is not accurate.

Correction

Important: The new software calibration that will be installed as part of this service fix will delete the Instantaneous Fuel Economy function of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Please inform your customer that this IPC function will be eliminated.

Technicians are to use one of the following two service procedures, which are dependent on the model year of the vehicle, to address their customer's concern. Record which inflatable restraint system option codes, AJ7, AK5 or AW9, the vehicle is equipped with before reprogramming the IPC. This option code information is required during the reprogramming procedure.

Important: Do not try to reprogram a 2005 model year IPC with 2006 model year calibrations. The IPC will become inoperative. The updated calibrations are only for a 2006 model year IPC.

    • On 2005 model year vehicles, replace the IPC with a 2006 model year IPC and reprogram the new part with the updated software. The replacement 2006 model year IPC should be obtained through your authorized electronic service center (ESC).
    • On 2006 model year vehicles, reprogram the IPC. Replacement of the IPC is not required.

Refer to the Cluster, Cluster Trim Plate Replacement-Instrument Panel procedure in SI for more information on IPC replacement procedures. Refer to the Instrument Panel Cluster Programming and Setup procedure in SI for more information about IPC reprogramming. If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic compass make sure it is recalibrated before returning the vehicle to the customer. Refer to the Electronic Compass Calibration procedure in SI for more information on compass recalibration.

The updated IPC calibrations were made available to dealerships as part of TIS2000 incremental satellite update version 2.0, which was broadcast to dealers on February 6, 2006. As always make sure your Tech 2® is updated with the latest software version.
