Subject: | Engine Continues to Run Until the Ignition Key is Removed |
Models: | 2005-2006 Buick Terraza |
| 2005-2006 Chevrolet Uplander |
| 2005-2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment that the engine will continue to run when the ignition is turned to the OFF/LOCK position. The engine will turn off when the key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder. This concern may be caused by a short to ground in circuit
1141 (Ignition 3). If circuit 1141 is shorted to ground, the BCM will not receive an Ignition 3 signal and BCM power moding will not be correct.
Recommendation/Instructions:
There have been two areas of chafed wires found on these vehicles.
- On vehicles equipped with 115 VAC Auxiliary Power Outlet (RPO KC7), this wire may be pinched under the Accessory AC/DC Power Control Module bracket. Circuit 1141 breaks out of the body harness near this bracket and goes to the 115 VAC Auxiliary Power
Outlet. These components are located in the right rear of the vehicle just in front of the spare tire jack. Remove the access door for the spare tire jack and inspect the routing of the wire. If the wire is pinched under the Power Control Module bracket, repair
and re-route the wire.
- Circuit 1141 may also be chafed on the top of the transmission, just below the air filter box. Repair any chafed wires as needed, and wrap with protective tape inside and outside the conduit.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
