Attention: Attention: Due to the procedures for transporting of Hazardous materials, this bulletin only applies to dealers/vehicles located in SE Michigan and Northern Ohio. Proceed with this bulletin ONLY if the customer has commented about this concern AND the EI number is listed in GMVIS. If the customer has not commented about this condition, the EI does not show in GMVIS or the vehicle is not located in SE Michigan/Northern Ohio area, disregard the bulletin and proceed with diagnostics found in published service information. THIS IS NOT A RECALL -- refer to TSB 04-00-89-053A for more detail on the use of Engineering Information bulletins.


Condition

Important:  If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this issue, DO NOT proceed with this bulletin.

Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:

   • 

Extended engine crank times

   • 

Having to have the vehicle jump-started

   • 

Dead battery

   • 

Low Voltage indicator light on

Cause

Important:  Due to the procedures for transporting of hazardous materials, this bulletin only applies to dealers/vehicles located in the SE Michigan/Northern Ohio area.

GM Engineering is interesting in obtaining any battery from a vehicle in which the diagnosis has lead to a battery replacement.

Be sure to document the following information on the repair order:

    • Verify that the VIN, mileage and customer's concern are accurately documented.
    • Inspect the battery for leaking, and/or a cracked, broken or damaged case. Note findings on the repair order.
    • Use J 42000 Battery Tester to test the battery. Document the code provided from the tester.
