Remove the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

Rack And Pinion Outer Tie Rod Castle Nut

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
30 N·m (22 lb ft) + 120 degrees (2 flats)

Procedure

  1. Use puller J-24319-B Universal Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller to separate the rack and pinion outer tie rod ball stud from the steering knuckle.
  2. Inspect the rack and pinion inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads.
  3. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
  4. Lubricate the rack and pinion inner tie rod threads with chassis lubricant. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  5. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
