J-39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Note: Cap or tape the open air conditioning (A/C) components immediately in order to prevent system contamination.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the A/C suction hose to A/C evaporator tube bolt.
3. Remove the A/C suction hose from the A/C evaporator tube.
4. Remove and discard the sealing washer.
5. Cap or tape off the A/C evaporator tube.
6. Remove the radiator air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors.
7. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.



8. Remove the A/C suction hose to A/C compressor nut.
9. Remove the A/C suction hose from the A/C compressor.
10. Remove and discard the sealing washer.
11. Cap or tape the A/C suction port on the A/C compressor.
12. Remove the A/C suction hose (1).

1. Install new sealing washers to the A/C suction hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement.
2. Remove the cap or tape from the suction port on the A/C compressor.
3. Install the A/C suction hose (1) to the A/C compressor.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Install the A/C suction hose to A/C compressor nut and tighten to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).



5. Remove the cap or tape from the evaporator tube.
6. Install the A/C suction hose to the A/C evaporator tube.
7. Install the A/C suction hose to A/C evaporator tube bolt and tighten to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
8. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
9. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
10. Leak test the fittings of the A/C components using the J-39400-A detector .
