J-42640 Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin

Caution: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly.

1. Lock the steering column using J-42640 Pin .
2. Remove the bolts that retain the steering column and move the steering column slightly inboard. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .



4. Position the intermediate steering shaft seal in order to provide access to the intermediate steering shaft lower pinch bolt.



5. Remove the intermediate steering shaft lower pinch bolt from the power steering gear stub shaft (2).
6. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft (1) from the power steering gear stub shaft (2).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the left sound insulator.



9. Reposition the intermediate steering shaft seal in order to gain access to the intermediate steering shaft upper pinch bolt.
10. Remove the intermediate steering shaft upper pinch bolt.
11. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering column.
12. Remove the intermediate steering shaft.

1. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the intermediate steering shaft upper pinch bolt at the steering column and tighten to 48 N·m (35 lb ft) .



3. Install the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the steering column.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
5. Connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the power steering gear stub shaft (2).
6. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower pinch bolt at the power steering gear stub shaft and tighten to 48 N·m (35 lb ft) .



7. Install the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the power steering gear.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the bolts that retain the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
10. Install the left sound insulator.
11. Remove the J-42640 Pin from the steering column.
