Diagnostic Fault Information
Perform the
Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
Circuit/System Description
The rear wiper motor module is part of the rear wiper motor assembly and controls wiper motor operation. The wiper motor module is used to operate the wiper motor in all modes and to return the rear wiper arm to the park position after the ignition is
turned off. Battery voltage supplied to the wiper motor assembly via a relay. The relay is ground side switched by the BCM to control power to the rear window wiper motor and the rear window washer fluid pump relay. The rear wiper/washer switch supplies a
ground signal to the wiper motor assembly to actuate the rear wipers. When the rear wiper/washer switch is turned OFF during a rear wiper motor cycle, the park switch within the wiper motor assembly supplies battery voltage to continue wiper motor operation
until the wiper motor reaches the park position and the switch opens.

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, verify proper operation of the RAP system by operating the power windows.
- Turn the rear wiper switch ON. The rear wiper should being operating.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear window wiper motor.
- Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal D and ground.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between terminal A and ground.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the fuse is open, test or replace the rear window wiper motor. |
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the rear window wiper motor.
- Disconnect the harness connector C4 at the turn signal/multifunction switch.
- Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Ignition ON, connect a 3-A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 2 and ground. Verify the rear window wiper motor activates.
⇒ | If the rear window wiper motor does not activate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the rear window wiper motor. |
- Test or replace the turn signal/multifunction switch
