Circuit/System Description

The rear quarter windows are operated using the rear quarter window switch in the overhead console multifunction switch assembly. The rear quarter window switch is supplied power when the ignition is in RUN or retained accessory power (RAP) is enabled.

When the rear quarter window switch is activated to the Open position, battery positive voltage is applied to the rear quarter window actuators through the power quarter window motor open control circuit. Ground for the actuators is provided by the power quarter window motor close control circuit through the close side of the rear quarter window switch.

When the rear quarter window switch is activated to the Close position, battery positive voltage is applied to the rear quarter window actuators through the power quarter window motor close control circuit. Ground for the actuators is provided by the power quarter window motor open control circuit through the open side of the rear quarter window switch.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, command the rear quarter windows to OPEN and CLOSE by using the rear quarter window switch. The rear quarter windows should perform the OPEN and CLOSE functions.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the overhead console multifunction switch.
  2. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal E and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition OFF, connect the X2 harness connector at the overhead console multifunction switch and disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear quarter window actuator.
  7. Test for less than 1 ohm between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
  8. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the rear quarter window switch.
  9. Test for less than 1 ohm between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
  10. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the rear quarter window switch.
  11. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.
  12. Ignition ON, command the rear quarter window to OPEN and CLOSE by using the overhead console multifunction switch. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the OPEN and CLOSE states.
  13. If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test either control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the overhead console multifunction switch.
  14. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear quarter window actuator.

Component Testing

Rear Quarter Window Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the overhead console multifunction switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the control terminals C and D and the B+ terminal E with the switch in the INACTIVE position.
  3. If less than the specified value, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.
  4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the control terminal C and the B+ terminal E with the switch in the OPEN position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.
  6. Test for less than 2 ohms between the control terminal D and the B+ terminal E with the switch in the CLOSE position.
  7. If greater than the specified range, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.

Rear Quarter Window Actuator

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear quarter window actuator.
  2. Install a 15A fused jumper wire between the control terminal A and 12 volts. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the control terminal B and ground. The rear quarter window actuator should perform the OPEN/CLOSE function.
  3. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the rear quarter window actuator.
  4. Reverse the jumper wires; the rear quarter window actuator should perform the CLOSE/OPEN function.
  5. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the rear quarter window actuator.
