Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement LZ9

Removal Procedure

Warning: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan

Warning: To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked, or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.


    Object Number: 1547170  Size: SH
  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  2. Remove the right side diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement .
  3. Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the cooling fan harness electrical connector (1).

  5. Object Number: 792869  Size: SH
  6. Loosen the engine mount strut nuts at the engine side.
  7. Remove the engine mount strut bracket brace bolts from the upper radiator support and rotate the struts and brackets rearward.

  9. Remove the overflow hose (1) from the retainers.

  11. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose retainer from the fan shroud.

  13. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  14. Remove the radiator upper mount bolts.
  15. Remove the radiator upper mounts.
  16. Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
  17. Disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler (TOC) line from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection .
  18. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  19. Remove the radiator air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors .
  20. Disconnect the TOC lines from the fan shroud retainer clip.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Remove the cooling fan shroud and fans.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1547212  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooling fan shroud and fans.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Connect the TOC lines to the fan shroud retainer clip.
  4. Install the radiator air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors .
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the upper TOC line to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection .
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the cooling fan shroud bolts and tighten to 6 N·m (53 lb in) .
  9. Install the radiator upper mounts.
  10. Install the radiator upper mount bolts and tighten to 10 N·m (88 lb in) .
  11. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .

  13. Connect the radiator outlet hose retainer to the outlet hose retainer.

  14. Object Number: 1547161  Size: SH
  15. Install the overflow hose (1) to the retainers.

  16. Object Number: 792869  Size: SH
  17. Position the engine mount struts brackets flush with the upper radiator support.
  18. Install the engine mount strut bracket brace bolts to the upper radiator support and tighten to 28 N·m (21 lb ft) .
  19. Tighten the engine strut mount nuts at the engine side to 48 N·m (35 lb ft) .

  20. Object Number: 1547170  Size: SH
  21. Connect the cooling fan harness electrical connector (1).
  22. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  23. Install right side diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement .
  24. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
