Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Brake Caliper Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the caliper from the mounting bracket and support the caliper with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. It is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper.

  2. Object Number: 177032  Size: SH
  3. Remove the brake pads (5) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
  4. Remove the brake pad retainers (4) from the brake caliper bracket.

  5. Object Number: 344282  Size: SH
  6. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).
  7. Use a wire brush in order to remove any thread locker and debris from the bolt threads.
  8. Remove the brake caliper bracket  (1).
  9. Remove the brake caliper bolt boots (3) from the brake caliper bracket (1).
  10. Inspect and replace the brake caliper bracket if cracks or deformation damage exists.
  11. Use a wire brush in order to remove any rust and debris from the brake caliper bracket where the brake pad retainers contact the brake caliper bracket.
  12. Use a wire brush in order to clean away any rust and debris from the brake pads where the brake pads contact the brake pad retainers.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 344282  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake caliper bracket (1).
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Note: To ensure that the proper clamp load will be present when installed, it is imperative that the threads on the caliper bracket bolts, as well as the mounting holes in the knuckle, be cleaned of all debris and inspected before proceeding with installation.

    Clean and visually inspect the threads of the caliper bracket bolts  (2) and the mounting holes in the knuckle.

    Apply GM  P/N 12345493 or equivalent to the threads of the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).

  3. Install the brake caliper bracket bolts and tighten to 185 N·m (137 lb ft) .

  4. Object Number: 177032  Size: SH
  5. Install the brake pad retainers (4) to the brake caliper bracket.
  6. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake pad retainers (4) where the brake pads contact the brake pad retainers.
  7. Lubricate the brake caliper bolt boots with high temperature silicone brake lubricant.
  8. Install the brake caliper bolt boots to the brake caliper bracket.
  9. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.
  10. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
