Some customers may comment that when they recall a preset FM Radio Data System (RDS) station, the audio is lost and the station fades out for approximately 45 to 60 seconds and then returns.
Radios are manufactured with the Alternate Frequency (AF) default setting to "AF ON". When the AF function is on, and the radio station becomes weak, it will attempt to seek to another stronger station that carries the same program. This functionality has limited use in the domestic market, where individual competing radio stations do not carry the same program - unlike in export markets, where there are chains of stations all carrying the same program.
Change the radio alternate frequency to off. Review the vehicle's Owner's Manual with the customer, especially how to turn on and off the AF function. Press and hold the BAND button for two seconds. After two seconds, a beep will be heard and the radio screen will display the current AF setting (AF ON or AF OFF). If the AF setting is on, press and hold the BAND button again for two seconds. AF OFF will appear on the display.
