Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to LO.
  3. Turn the wiper/washer switch to HI.
  4. Turn OFF the wiper/washer switch.

Do the windshield wipers operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector.

Do the windshield wipers stop?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Test the following circuits for a short to voltage:

    • windshield wiper/washer switch on signal circuit.
    • windshield wiper switch low/pulse signal circuit
    • windshield wiper motor high speed circuit

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for a poor connection at the windshield wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for a poor connection at the windshield wiper motor connector.Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the wiper motor module. Refer to Windshield Wiper System Module Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
