Condition
Some customers may comment that the horn sounds even though the horn pad was
not pressed.
Cause
The horn lead may be pinched under the steering wheel module attaching post.
Correction
Technicians are to secure the horn lead to the ground wire on the steering wheel
module using the following procedure:
- Disable the SIR system using the SIR Disabling and Enabling procedure
in SI.
- Remove the steering wheel module using the Inflatable Restraint Steering
Wheel Module Replacement procedure in SI.
- Remove the nut that attaches the black ground lead
to the back of the steering wheel module.
- Repair the horn lead wire if it has been pinched. Use the wiring repair
procedures in SI.
- Secure the red horn lead to the black ground lead using electrical tape.
- Reinstall the ground lead on the back of the steering wheel module. Tighten
the nut on the ground lead securely. Make sure the wires are routed away from the
attaching post on the back of the steering wheel module.
- Reinstall the steering wheel module using the Inflatable Restraint Steering
Wheel Module Replacement procedure in SI.
- Enable the SIR system using the SIR Disabling and Enabling procedure in
SI.
