Info - Remote Feedback Using RKE for Lock/Unlock or Inadvertent Theft Deterrent Activation

Subject:Remote Feedback Using RKE for Lock/Unlock or Inadvertent Theft Deterrent Activation

Models:2003-2004 Chevrolet Venture
2003-2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette
2003-2004 Pontiac Montana

Customer Concerns and Interim Build Changes

The following information does not apply to vehicles built with the Vehicle Content Theft Deterrent Option (UA6).

Some customers expressed dissatisfaction that their vehicle (if built without the UA6 Theft Deterrent Option) does not offer LIGHT or HORN confirmation when the RKE transmitter is used to LOCK or UNLOCK the doors. In response to this customer satisfaction issue, beginning in December of 2002, a Level 4 Multi-function Alarm, Light and Locking Module (MALL) was installed in ALL Venture, Silhouette, and Montana minivans. This change added the option of a HORN confirmation when the doors are locked or unlocked from the RKE transmitter.

In April of 2003, Circuit 301 was added between the MALL module and the DRL module. This change allowed non-UA6 equipped vehicles the option of feedback via the LIGHTS in addition to the horn.

Important: The changes outlined above are intentional vehicle build changes. No attempt should be made to replace or exchange MALL modules for these vehicles.

Operational Changes

Due to the above vehicle content changes, there are certain operational changes that may have caused dealer and customer confusion.

    • Due to the incorporation of the level 4 MALL module into all vehicles, customers have gained a limited feature Theft Deterrent at no cost. If you lock the doors using the RKE transmitter, the alarm will sound when the doors are opened using either a key or if you reach in (such as through a broken or open window) and manually unlock the door. The UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter will stop the alarm.
    • If the Theft Deterrent feature is not desired, you may disable it using the instructions in the vehicle's Owner's Manual under the heading, Content Theft Deterrent System. If you disable the Theft Deterrent feature for the customer, please use labor operation N8520 -- Module, Reprogram as listed below.

Additional Vehicle Build Changes as of 7/21/03

Due to the possible confusion for the dealer and the customer as to proper operation of the vehicle, the changes outlined above have been cancelled the week of 7/21/03. Vehicles built without the UA6 Vehicle Content Theft Deterrent after this date are no longer equipped with the option of LIGHT or HORN confirmation for LOCK or UNLOCK commands from the RKE transmitter.

Please advise customers that the first printing of the 2004 Owners Manual incorrectly indicates that Remote LOCK/UNLOCK confirmation is available on (non-UA6) optioned cars. The Vehicle Personalization chart indicates that models which sound 3 chimes during personalization programming may be programmed to have remote LOCK/UNLOCK confirmation. This error will be corrected in subsequent printings. You may provide a copy of this bulletin to the customer.
