A history (DTC) B0687/B0689 may be found by the technician when working
on the PASS-Key® III system.
The Instrument Panel Cluster is powered down when the key is turned
OFF. However, the PASS-Key® III module remains powered up for an
additional 10 seconds. During this 10 seconds the PASS-Key® III
module is performing several diagnostic routines. During the diagnostic routine,
with the lack of power to the cluster, the PASS-Key® III module
finds a lack of voltage which is interpreted as an open/short in the PASS-Key® III
tell-tale circuit in the cluster. With the next key cycle, the cluster will
power up and the PASS-Key® III module will now recognize the voltage
and the DTC is stored as a history DTC.
Important: No repair should be attempted.
