Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the brake pipe(s)
(3) from the intermediate brake hose(s) (4).
- Plug the brake hose(s) in order to prevent brake fluid loss.
Important: Do NOT damage the brake pipe retainers.
- Use duck-bill pliers or needle-nose pliers in order to carefully remove
the brake pipe retainers from the rear axle.
- Remove the brake pipe(s)
(5) from the wheel brake cylinder(s) or the brake caliper hose(s) (2).
- Remove the brake pipe(s) from the rear axle.
- If you are replacing the brake pipes, perform the following steps:
Important: Reuse the following brake pipe hardware ONLY if the brake pipe hardware
is not damaged.
7.2. | Remove the brake pipe fitting(s). |
7.3. | Remove the brake pipe retainer(s). |
Installation Procedure
Caution: Always use double walled steel brake pipe when replacing brake pipes.
The use of any other pipe is not recommended and may cause brake system failure.
Carefully route and retain replacement brake pipes. Always use the correct
fasteners and the original location for replacement brake pipes. Failure to
properly route and retain brake pipes may cause damage to the brake pipes
and cause brake system failure.
- If you are replacing the brake pipes, perform the following steps:
Important: Reuse the following brake pipe hardware ONLY if the brake pipe hardware
is not damaged.
1.1. | Install the brake pipe retainer(s). |
1.2. | Install the brake pipe fittings. |
1.4. | Bend the brake pipe(s) in order to duplicate the original brake
pipe routing. |
- Install the brake pipe(s) to the rear axle.
- Install the brake pipe retainers to the rear axle.
- Install the brake pipe(s)
(5) to the wheel brake cylinder(s) or the brake caliper hose(s) (2).
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fitting.
• | For Domestic vehicles, tighten the brake pipe fitting to 17 N·m
(12 lb ft). |
• | For Export vehicles, tighten the brake pipe fitting to 21 N·m
(15 lb ft). |
- Remove the plug from the brake hose(s).
- Connect the brake pipe(s)
(3) to the intermediate brake hose(s) (4).
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the brake fluid reservoir. Refer to
Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling

- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
