Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 33023-A Puller Pilot
    • J 8433 Compressor Pulley Puller
    • J 8433-3 Forcing Screw
    • J 33025 Clutch Coil Puller Legs
    • J 33024 Clutch Coil Installer
  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Install a piece of cardboard where the electric cooling fan was positioned in order to protect the radiator.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the tire and wheel from the passenger side of the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Remove the engine splash shield from the passenger side of the vehicle. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.

  9. Object Number: 277918  Size: SH
  10. Remove the compressor mounting bolts. Place the compressor on the frame.
  11. Remove the compressor clutch plate and hub assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Plate/Hub Assembly Install (V5 - Direct Mount) .
  12. Remove the compressor rotor and bearing assembly. Refer to Clutch Rotor and/or Bearing Install (V5 - Direct Mount) .
  13. Mark the clutch coil terminal location on the compressor front head.

  14. Object Number: 392609  Size: SH
  15. Install the following tools onto the A/C clutch coil:
  16. • J 8433-1
    • J 8433-3
    • J 33025
    • J 33023-A
  17. Tighten the center forcing screw of the puller bar until the A/C clutch coil comes off of the compressor.
  18. Remove the following item:
  19. • J 8433-1
    • J 8433-3
    • J 33025
    • J 33023-A
  20. Remove the A/C clutch coil.

Installation Procedure

  1. Place the clutch coil assembly on the front head with the coil terminal at the positioned at the mark made during disassembly.
  2. Place the J 33024 over the internal opening of the clutch coil housing and align installer with the compressor front head.

  3. Object Number: 392607  Size: SH
  4. Install the following tools onto the A/C clutch coil:
  5. • J 8433-1
    • J 8433-3
    • J 33024
  6. Tighten the center screw of the puller bar until the screw pushes the A/C clutch coil all of the way down into position.
  7. Remove the following tools from the compressor:
  8. • J 8433-1
    • J 8433-3
    • J 33024
  9. Install the compressor clutch rotor and bearing assembly. Refer to Clutch Rotor and/or Bearing Install (V5 - Direct Mount) .
  10. Install the A/C compressor pulley. Refer to Compressor Clutch Plate/Hub Assembly Install (V5 - Direct Mount) .
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the compressor using the mounting bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  14. Install the electrical connector to the compressor.
  15. Install the engine splash shield on the passenger side of the vehicle. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  16. Install the tire and wheel on the passenger side of the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Remove the piece of cardboard.
  19. Install the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  20. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Drive Belt in Engine Mechanical.
