Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear wiper arm. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Arm Replacement in Wipers/ Washer Systems.
  2. Remove the rear washer nozzle. Refer to Rear Window Washer Nozzle Replacement in Wipers/ Washer Systems.
  3. Open and support the liftgate.
  4. Remove the liftgate pull strap. Refer to Liftgate Pull Strap Replacement .
  5. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove the liftgate wiring harness. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement .
  7. Remove the rear speakers from the liftgate. Refer to Radio Rear Speaker Replacement in Entertainment.
  8. Remove the wiper motor. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Motor Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  9. Place protective coverings over adjacent body panels.
  10. With a grease pencil mark the location of the liftgate hinge to the liftgate.
  11. Remove the struts from the liftgate. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement .
  12. With an assistant, remove the bolts from the liftgate hinge.

  14. With an assistant, remove the liftgate from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. With an assistant, align marks on liftgate with liftgate hinges.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. With an assistant, install the liftgate hinge bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the hinge bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the liftgate struts. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement .
  6. Remove the protective coverings.
  7. Install the wiper motor. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Motor Replacement in Wipers/ Washer Systems.
  8. Install the rear speakers to the liftgate. Refer to Radio Rear Speaker Replacement in Entertainment.
  9. Install the liftgate wiring harness. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement .
  10. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .
  11. Install the liftgate pull strap. Refer to Liftgate Pull Strap Replacement .
  12. Remove the support and close the liftgate.
  13. Install the rear washer nozzle. Refer to Rear Window Washer Nozzle Replacement in Wipers/ Washer Systems.
  14. Install the rear wiper arm. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Arm Replacement in Wipers/ Washer Systems.
