Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: One of the following conditions occurs:

    • With the video entertainment system on and a digital video disc (DVD) playing, the wireless headphones do not play video audio through one side of Channel A (the channel that plays DVD audio). With rear seat audio (RSA) on, the wireless headphones play radio audio from both sides of Channel B (the channel that plays radio audio) normally.
    • No sound from the wireless headphone speakers

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn on the wireless headphones.
  3. Test the operation of the radio with the video entertainment system off and the RSA off. Radio audio plays through the front speakers, overhead speakers and the rear speakers.
  4. Turn off the radio. Leave the RSA off.
  5. Turn on the DVD player. Load a DVD in the DVD player. Start the DVD. Video audio plays through the front speakers, overhead speakers, rear speakers and Channel A of the wireless headphones. The display plays video from the DVD player.
  6. While the DVD is playing, turn the radio on. The overhead and rear speakers mute. The front speakers play radio audio. Video audio plays through the wireless headphones Channel A only. No sound plays from the wireless headphones Channel B.
  7. Turn on the RSA. Video audio plays from the wireless headphones Channel A. Radio audio plays from the wireless headphones Channel B.

Does the system operate normally?

Observe the infra-red transmitter receiver L.E.D.'s in the overhead console. There are four L.E.D.'s in each window, on each side of the display in the overhead console.

Are all eight L.E.D.'s illuminated?

Go to Step 4

Using the video remote control, test the balance and fade to the wireless headphones during video play using a known good set of wireless headphones.

Is the rear entertainment system operation normal?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 7

Test and replace as needed the batteries of the wireless headphones.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 6

Replace the wireless headphones.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 11

Test the DVD audio left signal (+) and the DVD audio right signal (+) for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • High resistance
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the following harness connectors:

    • The DVD player connector
    • The rear video/audio/HVAC module connector C2

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Important: Remove the retained accessory power (RAP) relay fuse before replacing the DVD player.

Replace the DVD player. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement .

Replace the rear video/audio/HVAC module. Refer to VES Overhead Console Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?
