Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: The PLAY, STOP, FF, REW, and other buttons on the video remote control do not operate the digital video disc (DVD) player. The PLAY, STOP, PAUSE, EJECT, and other buttons on the DVD player do operate OK.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the wireless headphones.
  3. Turn OFF the radio and the rear seat audio (RSA).
  4. Turn ON power to the DVD player.
  5. Load a DVD in the DVD player. Start the DVD. Video audio plays through the front speakers, the overhead speakers, and rear speakers as well as Channel A of the wireless headphones. The display plays video from the DVD player.
  6. Test the play, pause, stop, and eject functions from the button on the face of the DVD player. The DVD player performs the appropriate function.
  7. Test the play, rewind, fast forward, stop, and eject functions from the video remote control. The DVD player performs the appropriate function.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Step 3

Test the operation of the video entertainment system using a known good remote control.

Is the video entertainment system operation normal?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Test and, as needed, replace the batteries in the remote control. If OK, replace the remote control.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 9

Test the DVD infrared command serial data circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • High resistance
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the following harness connectors:

    • The DVD player connector
    • The rear video/audio/HVAC module connector C2

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Replace the DVD player. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement .

Replace the rear video/audio/HVAC module. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
