The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Dealer may encounter a missing cooler line check ball or an extra check ball in channel plate on 4T65E transmissions.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The date of this change was 1/19/04. It was a coordinated change with the mat threads in the case, cooler ball in the channel plate and cooler fittings.
• | The case threads for the cooler fittings were changed to a mat thread to help assembly. |
• | The cooler check ball was moved from the cooler fitting to the channel plate. |
• | The cooler fittings were changed to a mat thread and the cooler check ball was removed. The new fittings without the check ball are both 9/16 - 18 UNF. The old fittings were 3/8-18 NPSF with Check ball and 1/4-18 NPSF. |
The tech should check the fittings size to determine which 2004 model he has, check ball in the channel plate or in the fitting. All 2005 models will have the new fitting with the check ball in the channel plate.
All service channel plates will contain an encapsulated check ball.
An instruction sheet is packaged with the service channel plate. The instruction sheet P/N is 24229133.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
