Compressor Pressure Relief Valve Replacement w/C60
Tools Required
J 39400-A
Halogen Leak
Detector
Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the air baffle bolts.
- Remove the air baffle.
- Remove the suction hose to A/C compressor nut.
Important: Immediately cap or tape the open A/C components immediately in order to prevent
contamination.
- Disconnect the suction hose from the A/C compressor.
- Remove and discard the seal washer and position the suction hose aside.
- Cap or tape the A/C compressor suction port and suction hose end fitting.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the high pressure relief valve from the
A/C compressor.
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the high pressure relief valve O-ring. Refer to
O-Ring Replacement
.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the high pressure relief valve to
the A/C compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the valve to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the cap or tape from the A/C compressor suction port and suction
hose end fitting.
- Install a new seal washer to the suction hose end fitting. Refer to
Sealing Washer Replacement
.
- Connect the suction hose to the A/C compressor.
- Install the suction hose to A/C compressor nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the air baffle.
- Install the air baffle bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A
.
