Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1263684  Size: SH

    Caution: Batteries produce explosive gases. Batteries contain corrosive acid. Batteries supply levels of electrical current high enough to cause burns. Therefore, in order to reduce the risk of personal injury while working near a battery, observe the following guidelines:

       • Always shield your eyes.
       • Avoid leaning over the battery whenever possible.
       • Do not expose the battery to open flames or sparks.
       • Do not allow battery acid to contact the eyes or the skin.
          - Flush any contacted areas with water immediately and thoroughly.
          - Get medical help.

  1. Remove the battery cable nuts.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and then disconnect the positive battery cable.
  3. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Remove the battery rods clamp nuts.
  5. Remove the battery rods and clamp.
  6. Remove the battery.

  8. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement in Power Steering System.
  9. Remove the EI system ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls - 1.6L, or Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls - 2.0L.
  10. Remove the battery tray bolts and nuts.
  11. Remove the battery tray.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery tray.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the battery tray bolts and nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the battery tray bolts and nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the EI system ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls - 1.6L, or Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls - 2.0L.
  6. Install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement in Power Steering System.

  7. Object Number: 1263684  Size: SH
  8. Install the battery.
  9. Install the battery rods and clamp.
  10. Install the battery rods clamp nuts.
  11. Connect the positive battery cable and then connect the negative battery cable.
  12. Install the battery cable nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
