Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the timing belt. Refer to
Timing Belt Replacement
.
- Remove the valve cover. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in
removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.
Important: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshaft. Such damage can cause premature engine wear.
- While holding the camshaft firmly in place, remove the camshaft gear retaining bolt.
- Remove the camshaft gear.
Installation Procedure
- Install the camshaft gear.
Important: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshaft. Such damage can cause premature engine wear.
- While holding the camshaft firmly in place, install the camshaft gear retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the gear retaining bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees.
- Install valve cover. Refer to

- Install the timing belt. Refer to
Timing Belt Replacement
.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
