Transmitter Programming Scan 100

The remote keyless entry system allows for the use of as many as five transmitters for each vehicle. Replacement remote keyless entry system transmitters must be first programmed to the specific vehicle using the scan tool.

This process is completed using serial data communications between the scan tool and the remote keyless entry control unit and is the only method available for programming transmitters.

Important: All transmitters that are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to five transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

Important: Make sure that the doors and trunk/rear hatch are closed before beginning the programming procedure.

  1. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the scan tool ON by pressing the power button. Wait for the MAIN MENU screen to be displayed.
  3. From the MAIN MENU screen, select diagnostics by pressing the number 1 on the key pad.
  4. From the MODEL YEAR screen, select the appropriate model year of the vehicle by either scrolling down to the year and pressing ENTER, or by pressing the respective item number on the key pad.
  5. From the VEHICLE TYPE screen, select the specific vehicle model by either scrolling down to the model name and pressing ENTER, or by pressing the respective item number on the key pad.
  6. From the SYSTEM SELECTION MENU screen, select body by pressing the number 2 on the key pad.
  7. From the BODY SELECTION MENU screen, select coding by pressing the number 2 on the key pad.
  8. From the CODING SELECTION MENU screen, select coding by pressing the number 1 on the key pad.
  9. From the SECRET NUMBER OF CODINGS screen, enter 4 zeros 0-0-0-0 in the 4  boxes labeled 1-2-3-4.
  10. From the CODING SYSTEM SELECT screen, select keyless entry by pressing the number 2 on the key pad.
  11. Important: A slight delay may occur and PLEASE WAIT may be displayed before the next screen appears.

  12. From the KEYLESS ENTRY CODING SYSTEM screen, select coding transmitter by pressing the number 1 on the key pad.
  13. When directed by the scan tool, press any button on the first transmitter to be programmed.
  14. Important: Ensure that transmitters from other vehicles in the immediate area are not activated during this procedure.

  15. Continue programming transmitters when directed by the scan tool until all transmitters have been programmed.
  16. Important: A maximum of 4 transmitters may be programmed to a vehicle.

  17. Once all transmitters have been programmed, press the ESC Button on the keypad. The display will confirm the number of transmitters programmed. If the number displayed does not match the number of transmitters programmed, repeat the procedure.
  18. Turn the scan tool OFF, and then disconnect it from the DLC.
  19. Wait approximately 10 seconds, and then test the operation of each programmed transmitter to ensure it operates properly.

The remote control door lock receiver leaves the programming mode automatically and switches to the normal operating mode when either of the following conditions occur:

    • The scan tool is disconnected from the DLC.
    • Five passwords are recorded in the remote control door lock receiver.

Transmitter Programming Tech 2

Important: All transmitters that are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to five transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

Transmitter Programming Procedure

Important: Turn the ignition to ON before installing in the scan tool. Failure to connect in this procedure may cause communication errors and the programming procedure will not complete. Any keys that are not programmed at this time will no longer function.

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Install the scan tool.
  3. Select PROGRAMMING KEY FOBS from the BODY menu.
  4. Follow the scan tool instructions with each key until all keys are programmed.
  5. Turn the ignition to the LOCK position, disconnect the TECH 2 and test all the keys.
  6. If any key does not function, refer to Keyless Entry Does Not Program .

Refer to Programming Additional Keys for immobilizer programming.
