J 42459 Rack Guide Spring Cap Wrench or Equivalent

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Center the steering wheel.
3. Remove the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
4. Using the J 42459 , loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster plug clockwise to tighten.

Tighten
Tighten the adjuster plug to 12 N·m (9 lb ft), then loosen it by 50-70 degrees.

5. Tighten the locknut on the adjuster plug while holding the adjuster plug stationary.
6. Install the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
7. Check the return ability of the steering wheel to the center position after the adjustment.
